A rotten panel on the rear facing wall in 50454. A replacement was constructed, and installed. The leaking window causing the problem will be tackled over the winter.
50528 was brought back out of the shed and into the light to allow work on the centre saloon to continue. The ceiling has been sanded down ready for a new coat of gloss. The vestibule kick plates were removed, as where the header tanks, before being painted and refitted. The windows had a scrape on the outside to remove some excess paint, and the light fittings came down ready to be replaced by newly powder coated ones. The wood panelling also received a light sanding ready for a final coat of varnish.
In the Cravens a team progressed the restoration, with brackets for the wall panelling installed on the drivers cab partition. The wooden frames for fitting the luggage racks to have also started to be fitted, using a lazier to help line up the predrilled holes.
It has been a quiet week at Llangollen, though one of our members has been busy refurbishing spare parts as a homework project. Over at the Midland, the 141 has been in action for ten days, moving passengers to the "Seaside". The event was very successful, with the only downside needing to fix some detached arm rests. New stickers have also been fitted to the crew doors at either end directing passengers to use the main doors.
The brake van area of 51907 has recieved a new coat of paint following repairs to stop water ingress through the ceiling.
The temporary hybrid of the 104/108 was treated to an FP exam this weekend, with nothing of note found, but a door that wasn't striking properly was dealt with. A potential new volunteer to the group also attended during the work, and assisted in cleaning out the unit.
Interior work on 50528 was progressed, the remaining wood panels where sanded down, and a first coat of varnish applied to them on Saturday, with a second coat following on Sunday. The floor also received some elbow grease, in an attempt to lift the floor to a better standard. The heater ducting was also tackled and received a coat of paint.
In the Cravens, more wood work has been fitted, with the frame over the 2nd vestibule having been fitted, allowing the luggage rack frame to be fitted. The ceiling was also tackled, with a good dose of wire brushing, followed by a coat of chassis black.
Over both days of the weekend the Wickham was out as part of the railways 1960s weekend, and it was used to form a late night service to take campers back along the line. Pictured here at Glyndyfrdwy and Corwen.
