For several years Llangollen Railcars has followed the policy of saving unusual or unique railcars for future generations to enjoy.
In some cases this has involved ground-up restorations with individual vehicles having to be stripped back to basic component level. In other cases replica interiors have had to be built or bodywork rebuilt to its original appearance.
Much of this work has been groundbreaking and has involved covering territory that has never been entered before in preservation. Much of this work has been very difficult but it has been accomplished mainly by our team of volunteers and aided by suitably selected contractors. We have been grateful for grant aid for some of our projects and also for the support of our sponsors, many of whom contribute small sums each month to enable our work to continue.
One of our aims is to save as many unusual types of DMU as possible and with the resurrection of the only surviving Wickham and Gloucester sets, as well as the very rare Cravens we are well on our way to that aim. These pages give a flavour of what is involved in some of our restorations.
